Well, school’s out for the next three weeks and just in time. I am WRECKED. All in all, I did fine in my painting class, but I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily happy with my performance. However, I take comfort in the fact that I’m improving. I dunno, I guess I’m just tired of trying to live up to my own unrealistic expectations – maybe this short break is just what I need.
Addition on 3/18/10: In an effort to fully recharge my batteries, I’m gonna take a little break from updating the blog. I need some time to catch up on some non-school projects I’ve been neglecting (and that aren’t really that interesting), and also maybe squeeze in some personal projects I’ve wanted to tackle for awhile now. In any case, school starts back up the week of the 6th, so, at the very latest, I’ll start posting again somewhere around there.

Oy… Kind of a waste of a day. I was supposed to get up, get an early haircut and get some painting done before work… I woke up late and had to wait about two hours for the haircut, so now I have just enough time to update the blog and get ready for work. Crud. This means I’m gonna be up until stupid o’clock again trying to get my painting done for next Tuesday. Summer semester is just way too short.

So, my buddy Aaron has one of those autobiographical web comic things called My Life In Scribbles. The title sort of inspired me to draw a portrait of him where all the marks were just black line scribbles. So, this is kind of a study for that pin-up that may or may not ever get drawn. I don’t really like the photo reference that I had or the pose, but I guess the drawing was more about playing with the style rather than making an awesome picture. In any case, I think it kinda  looks like him. And, I didn’t consult with him at all before drawing this, so hopefully he’s surprised to see a random drawing of himself of my blog. Probably not. I think he actually hates me.

Man, these last few days have been crazy hectic because I’m still working out the kinks in my new school schedule. But, sadly, I haven’t really had a ton of time to finish any of the one-hundred-billion projects I’m juggling. So, here’s what I got today…

I did this as a facial study for my YFB pin up… a somewhat incomplete study, but whatever. Really I wanted to play around with the colors – see if I could color my “realistic” humans better than my Imagination Nation characters. I really have no clue what I’m doing here, but it’s kind of fun to play with. In any case, Aaron, I apologize for the crappy coloring of your pin up in advance. Good thing you’re gonna print it in black and white.

Wow… what a dismal week of blog images. Sorry folks. Hopefully next week will yield something better.

I’m not sure about this one… Your guess is as good as mine.

Oy school needs to start so that I can start posting more interesting things than stuff out of my sketchbook… I’m working on some other stuff as well, but, again, nothing is ready for posting at this point.
In an effort to keep ya’ll entertained, here’s two thumbnails for the Imaginary Friends cover. There were actually 4 of these sketches, these are just the top two contenders. I know they’re rough, but hopefully they’re somewhat decipherable. In any case, I need all ya’ll’s opinion. What do you guys say? Which cover would inspire you to buy our book?

No specific reason for drawing this picture. I just have had a desire to draw Velma from Scooby Doo lately. I think it was this image that inspired me. Mine’s not nearly as cool, but it was a fun sketch none the less. I kind of like sketching these random characters now and then. If anyone has any requests let me know.

Sorry folks, more sketchbooks junk. I’ll try to get something real in here by Monday.

Well, as predicted, I don’t really have much new artwork. I am working on projects, but nothing is ready to post yet. I have, however, been sketching in my sketchbook, and I need some practice coloring, so I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone! I decided on this picture of the Joker. He’s always a big hit.
HA! Get it?! A HIT! And he’s holding a big mallet! HAHAHA!
…  I think this is why I have no friends…

Well, it’s finals time again. You know what that means! I have NOTHING to post today. So, as exciting as it is, I guess let’s dig into the ol’ sketchbook:

Random sketch of a bum with a guitar. Not from life (hence why his hips are so strange). The guy on the right is someone from my creative writing class.

Some pretty girl on Bart who held still long enough for this sketch. One day I might actually talk to one of these girls instead of creepily sketching them from a far. Probably not.
So, I know this is generally an “art” blog, but something happened today that bummed me out a little bit and I wanted to talk about it. I feel sorry for Kimbo Slice. For those who don’t know, Kimbo was originally a Youtube sensation for his backyard fights. Eventually he got into MMA fighting, his career, apparently peaking when he was on the last season of Ultimate Fighter. He had two fights for the UFC; the second of which was, admittedly, a pretty dismal performance. Because of this , he just got handed his walking papers.
Now, I’m not going to say that Kimbo shouldn’t have been fired from UFC – honestly, he was just a bit out of his league. But if you watched him on Ultimate Fighter, he seemed like a dude who was really nice, worked really hard and really wanted to make it. But, as hard as he worked, he just didn’t have it in him. I really do feel sorry for him, and often worry that I’m going to end up with a similar fate in this wide world of arts.

Some more BART people…

This guy is the same guy from one of my earlier BART people drawings. I guess we take the same train pretty often, which is fine because this guy is really interesting to draw.

I know, I know. Not the most exciting update I’ve done. I gotta tell you, it’s hard to keep up with a 5 day a week update schedule and I’m just running out of steam. I might change the update schedule here in a little bit; maybe knock it down to 3x a week or something. Gimme your thoughts on this…
